Finding it hard to engage students with reading and writing? Do you have students who need additional support in improving their reading and writing skills and are you looking for strategies to support students to improve? This workshop will build on your skills to successfully engage students with meaningful reading and writing tasks, taking oracy as a starting point. All areas, reading, writing and oracy, will include specific skill building strategies which are aligned with all VCAL literacy outcomes. All topics will involve input from the participants so to get a wide range of ideas and lively discussions. This workshop is ideally suited for educators of students with low literacy levels that are reluctant to put pen to paper as well as educators (of all VCAL strands and subject areas) who are not qualified English teachers. A very popular and resource rich workshop which will equip you with useful strategies and tools to improve literacy in any classroom.
Mieke’s career in education spans almost 40 years, ranging from primary schools to teaching adults and young people in community education settings. A qualified teacher, VET trainer and assessor (Cert IV in Education Support) and experienced presenter she has delivered PD on gifted children, integrated curriculum, learning to learn, assessing mathematics, thinking curriculum and designing rich assessment tasks. Her workshops are full of practical advice and strategies which are delivered with humour and affection.
