It was great to see so many participants at our recent conference! For the first time our conference spanned 2 days and included local and international speakers and presenters. As always it was a great opportunity to share fantastic projects, hear about the latest research and network with other educators. Thank you to all for helping us make this event such a success. I was particularly impressed with the VCAL students from Ringwood Secondary College, who did an outstanding job in directing everyone to the right place and did some awesome quick thinking and on the spot problem solving.
Many presenters have provided their PowerPoint and documents here.
Later this year: the annual Safari by the Sea is taking shape, details to follow in the August newsletter.
Please take a moment to provide some feedback on the 5 Young Workers Stories following the link below and enter into the draw for some great mystery prizes!
Many of you will have seen and used the new WorkSafe resource: '5 Young Workers Stories'. These resources have been developed with support of VCAL students and teachers alike. Now it is time for you to let us know what you think! We would appreciate it if you could spend 5-10 minutes to complete the brief survey and be in the draw for some great VALA mystery giveaways!
The new SafeT1 website was launched at last month's VALA conference! Whilst a lot of background work was done to improve the navigation of the site, it has been completely revamped and given a fresh new look.
Last month the Deputy Premier and Minister for Education, The Hon James Merlino MP, officially launched project research by the Victoria Institute regarding Melbourne Academy.
‘Passport to a Positive Future: Evaluation of the Melbourne Academy' examines the impact of Melbourne City Mission's flexible learning program for young people experiencing disengagement from schooling at a time when youth unemployment is high and demand for flexible learning programs is on the rise, particularly amongst early school leavers who want to re-engage.
Flexible learning programs generate substantial benefits for individual young people as well as for their communities and broader Australian social and economic imperatives, according to this report. The research for Putting the Jigsaw Together focused on the provision of education for disadvantaged young people through flexible learning programs in Australia. The overall goal of the project was to both assess and enhance the potential of flexible learning programs to contribute to marginalised young people's learning and wellbeing, as well as to national educational attainment and social inclusion goals.
