Trauma Informed Positive Education

June 20, 2019

Grace Langton, Senior Trainer for Berry Street Education

“ALL staff should attend this!”
“Absolutely brilliant, the most useful PD I have ever been to! Thank you!”
“Excellent information delivered with enthusiasm and care.”
“Sensational, very engaging, excellent strategies, great research and knowledge.”

Intentional relationships are imperative within our applied learning classrooms; however, our research and practice suggest that we can do even more to build upon a relational foundation for student learning. Students often struggle because of their own escalation when encountering new learning and new social experiences which challenges their zone of tolerance. This highly practical session will feature whole-school rhythms, routines, and curricular strategies which revision teacher practice through trauma-informed, wellbeing-informed, and relational lenses. Learn new strategies to support both students and staff which build consistency throughout the school day to help students manage themselves to take the next step forward.

* 6.5 hours of PL towards Australian Professional Standards for Teachers; Standards 1, 3, 4 & 6.

An experienced teacher and youth worker, Grace’s teaching experience has straddled the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors. Grace has a deep passion for the art and the science of improving wellbeing outcomes for all young people and she has a particular focus on how schools can support young people with disabilities and young people who have been impacted by trauma or disadvantage in their lives. Grace’s work in leadership roles has focussed on teaching and learning initiatives to bring about educational change and transform culture. Grace began her teaching career as a performing arts teacher and her work continues to be informed by an appreciation of play, laughter and joy in the classroom.
