‘Compose’ your applied learning program

This new Masterclass will introduce participants to a number of resources that can support students as they develop as citizens. The session will focus on key skills and competencies including social advocacy, effective collaboration, inclusive leadership and intercultural understanding, that are increasingly needed in both education and the wider world.

Attendees will take part in a number of hands-on ‘Peak Experiences’ or simulations where they will experience the learning from a students’ perspective.  They will also be given an interactive introduction to Composer, a free online resource library that allows them to access content form a wide range of organisations to support student development as active citizens.

Participants will also be introduced to High Resolves Theory of Change and utilising Composer will be able to search for, use and adapt supporting materials to help students develop mastery in Citizenship Education in their own unique school context.

* 6.5 hours of PL towards Australian Professional Standards for Teachers; All 7 standards

Rebecca Absalom is an engaging educator with experience as a team leader developing transitional programs for disengaged young people. Rebecca (Bec) is passionate about VCAL, she has delivered the curriculum for six years and understands the need to support students, teachers and the whole school community.

Bec specialises in participatory learning and has led programs in Australia and internationally. Through her extensive travels and educational experiences, she has developed an understanding of how powerful real-world, applied learning can be. This, accompanied by her passion for working with young people, Bec is driven to provide incredible learning opportunities for students, encouraging them to be active agents for change in their local and global communities.

Cancellations and substitutions: Cancellations notified in writing prior to the event incur a fee of 50%; otherwise no refund is given. Substitutes are welcome at any time.
