Working Community Program (WCP) is an integrated VCE Vocational Major community focused program targeted at Year 12 students. The program meets the Unit 3 and 4 Outcomes for Personal Development Skills, Literacy, Numeracy and Work Related Skills. The structured applied learning program involves students working in teams to plan, implement and evaluate a community project of their choice. These community projects relate to a community issue of concern. The young people will identify environmental, cultural, economic and social issues affecting the local, national and global community and select one for an extended community project . The extended project will provide opportunities for the students to explore their local community. Working Community is a 5 Phases program over 30 - 32 weeks, covering all key knowledge and key skills in all the VCE VM studies. Teachers can either implement the whole program and phases, or choose to dip in and out of the phases. Along with the WCP is the Power Skills in Action (PSA) booklet. This resource accompanies and sits within the WCP. VALA has worked with a range of stakeholders, including teachers on the ground, to create the WCP and we are grateful for their contribution. We would love to hear about school, teacher and students experiences of this program, as it is a fluid document that is open to modification and change. Thus, the resource is not static and we invite all teachers to provide feedback so we can continually improve them. |
